Below are some more pics of other trees, namely the Autumn woods also from Battlefront. Also, some trees that I made from a package of plastic trunks that were supposed to bend so you could detail them, but alas they were too ridged to move. Even so they came out ok. In fact,I ended up with a few bases small enough that I use them the same as Battlefront's trees. I use the woods templates that came in the Open Fire starter box for Flames Of War.
These are the Small Pine Woods (winter) from Battlefront's Battlefield in a Box line. I really like the use of a base or template area to depict actual space used by the woods (showing accuratley areas for effects like cover and so on)The small stands of trees allows the user to move them around on the base as needed to accomodate models, with out the usual bending of trees or standing stands of models on edge. I wanted to take a moment to really take a look at some of the terrain that Battlefront has put out for Flames of War. Purists might say that a real gamer should make his own terrain, and certainly I have seen some great examples of homemade terrain. However, these pieces are really nice looking and, though a bit expensive, if you take care of them they will last for a long time. Here is the Ruined Monastery, which you can see has been shelled or caught on fire. The bell tower is still intact though and as you can see the top floor/roof of the tower comes off and a floor is there to place small based models (i.e. command tm, sniper, observer, etc). The main floor holds several medium or even a couple large bases. This is the first piece I have picked up for a Mediterranean themed table. The two houses here are for a Northern European battleground, like France or Holland. The one with the white trim is how they come, I re-painted the trim blue on the second so it would look just s touch different. The first and second floors have space for 4 medium bases in two rooms each (four rooms total) and the shed/extension on the end can also hold a medium base. A Panzergrenadier Platoon can hold the building with space to spare. These two huts are actually made for the Vietnam Era game, Tour of Duty. However, I figured I could get away with using them for farming village buildings like say on the Eastern front. Battlefront has some made specifically for that but the local game store didn't have any. These also have lift off roofs and the small huts hold two medium bases worth of troops. The flat printed walls come witht he starter set for FOW called Open Fire, along with ruined building markers and templates for wooded areas.
The Rural Roads you see through out these pics are also from Battlefront and are flexible so they don't stick up if the table is not flat. Check out the whee and track ruts and metal planks set in the mud for traction. All in all these are very good terrain pieces and I have to say i was excited each time I got to open a box. Again, they are pricey but After using them in battle I am pleased I have them. I had heard/read alot of comments on the web about the final result of these buildings but I am glad to day that they turned out just fine. They make a great addition to anyone's table. Brynhildr (Brunhilda) is a Bergepanther Recovery Vehicle, check out the nose art. Some may not like the small deviation from history (German tanks and armored vehicles didn't normally have pictures on them) but then again, its a game and they look very good. I think they add flavor. Sadly, I didn't paint these since my skills still leave alot to be desired. The guy who did is Dave from Mustang Games (http://www.mustanggamesystems.com). He also does the decals seen here and the ones I'll be using for my FOW units (82nd ABN and 3ID so far). Below are the rest of the ones he did for me, note the unique names on them and the symbols over the tank numbers on the turrets of the Konigstigers: These last two pics show all the models Dave did for me as a force. I am both embarrassed and motivated by these models. I think I have the ability to do these, its going to be the time and patience that will tell the tale. I have a large Kampfgruppe box coming from the local gamestore and I intend to try to do a comparable job on them. We'll see when they get here I guess. I did a quick list on FOWblogspot to see what these would look like as a force on thier own. I had to go to the Devil's Charge book and used Kampfgruppe Peiper, the list was 1875pts and that's without the Sturmtigers. The Desperate Measures book had a list where the same models came up as 2085pts.
